About Slovenia
Mediterranean coast, mysterious Karst with the most beautiful underground worlds, a “small” capital of Ljubljana with all the characteristics of major European capitals, Pohorje, the area of forests on the eastern side of the Alps and finally, the Alps it selves, mighty but easily accessible. All of this is Slovenia, a country located in Central Europe, on the boarder with Austria, Italy, Hungary and Croatia.
Slovenia became a member of EU on 1st May 2004.
The currency is Slovenian Tolar ( SIT ). Until the beginning of 2007, it will remain legal tender in Slovenia when it will be replaced by Euro. The general purchasing power (GDP) per capita is 79% of EU average, with low 2,3% inflation, low criminal rate, low poverty rate and the economic growth around 4 percent per year or more.
Property market in Slovenia has been growing in the last few years, partly due to cross border transactions. The total volume of transactions on the secondary real estate market has amounted to 2 billion €, with around 1000 transactions per year (related to the so called "weekend" houses).
People in Slovenia like going to their »weekend houses«. They are usually situated in the vicinity of a small vineyard or olive groves, usually in the coastal region. Thus, they can enjoy their own wine and local ethnic food.
Did you know that Slovenia possesses 2% of world finest vineyards? Have you heard that in the area with only 2 million inhabitants, you may find 500 kinds of bread (traditional cakes, like »potica« are not included)?
