Considering buying or renting a property in Slovenia?
We are positive that you will find some valuable information and advice on this page.
This is also one of the reasons why this web site has been started. We simply wanted to offer a helping hand to foreigners, especially the English speaking ones, since they are the ones that have been contacting us most frequently.
Maybe you are just looking for a perfect getaway from every day worries and rest or you just simply want to invest into property. I am sure that you will agree that different questions come to mind.
Where to buy?
Slovenia is divided into eight more or less completed geographical regions: Primorsko, (the coastal region with not only great sea resorts but also an opportunity for different leisure activities such as golfing or horseback riding), Notranjsko, unique in the world with many underground rivers and vast grasslands, Gorenjsko with the Julian Alps and Lake Bled, Dolenjsko, Bela krajina, Koroško, Štajersko and Prekmurje.
What does Slovenia have to offer?
Be prepared that Slovenia just might mesmerise you with its beauty and from there onwards it could be difficult to either buy or rent a property of your choice. Since looking for a property is not an easy task as we always seem to search for something that has to be of great value for the money, with picturesque countryside of course and a vineyard or two, maybe surrounded by mountains where one might head of skiing in winter or simply a house or an apartment at the coast.
If you like winter hiking trips in the Karavanke Alps or the Julian Alps, Gorenjska is the region for you. In case you are a Mediterranean type, you should head towards Primorska and purchase an apartment or a house in that area. Piran and Portoroz, just two out of many beautiful coastal cities await you.
Is it complicated to buy or rent propety in Slovenia?
Things have changed in Slovenia very much, especially since Slovenia became a member of the EU. It is a lot easier now to buy property in Slovenia and to obtain a residence permit.
The important thing is also that one finds a good, competant estate agent, willing to give prompt and good advice on where to buy, what the advantages and disadvantages are of purchasing a property in a particular area and of course someone, who will be able to inform you of all the necessary informtion about procedures of buying, selling or renting in Slovenia.
